An Embarrassing Confession

So call me clueless, but when did the postal rate for postcards go up? I missed it, I think. Or maybe it's a function of the fact that we use Forever stamps for first-class letters, and so I don't notice when that rate goes up. Anyway, I am here to tell you (in case you have been under this rock here with me) that the current rate for a normal-sized postcard (you gotta be careful there too!!) is 35 cents.

And I apologize if I have sent any of you postage-due postcards -- although I have long suspected that my mail lady is my postal guardian angel. Since I do send and receive quite a bit of mail, I think she must go behind me and correct my postage when I do boneheaded things like send a postcard with 34 cents of postage on it. Or maybe you all are too polite to tell me I am an idiot. :-)

Anyway, the point of all this is to sing the praises of the USPS, because they have finally seen the light and issued some really great Forever postcard stamps. Check them out! I love them, and just ordered some. (My local post office might have some of these, but I am way too lazy for that.)

Now I don't have to worry about how much postage to put on a postcard! Cue the singers...

  1. I ordered stamps too. They're here. :) The forget-me- nots look better online, and might willingly be forgotten. Very little thought went into the design. The Royal Mail outdoes the USPS when it comes to interesting stamp designs.

They won't wrest a hallelujah out of this limner. LOL.

    1. The forget-me-not stamps didn't interest me in the slightest, so I can't weigh in on that. And I agree that some of their stamps are unimaginative at best, especially some of the recent author stamps. (The Flannery O'Connor stamp that just came out makes me want to go lie down for a couple of days.) But have you seen the forthcoming "Summer Harvest" stamps? All I can say about them is WOW!!!!!!!!

    2. I bought the forget-me-nots to honor the missing. I'm weak when it comes to certain causes. :)

Laughing hard here! Your O'Connor comment makes me realize how unkind I was in my own opinions of her and the stamp. I haven't changed my mind about her mind you. I only wish I could have had kinder thoughts to share about her.

Have I seen the Summer Harvest stamps? Yes! I pre-ordered! A first ever for me. You will be number one on my "must-send-one-to list.

  2. Postcard stamp rates went up on May 31, but it didn't receive a lot of notice. I think that's because the first-class postage stamp didn't have a price increase.

I'm excited about finally having the forever stamps for postcards.

    1. Ahhhhhh!! That explains it -- maybe I'm not as clueless as I appear. :-) I love the forever postcard stamps, although now I am enjoying "making up" the postal rate with smaller denomination stamps. That's kinda hard to do on a postcard though -- not enough room!! :-/
